The Fashion Fish : Sound and Vision.

Over on Flickr, I've just discovered Spartin Parx's amazing photostream and their group called  Art and Sound magazine, as follows :
"ART and SOUND is about your images that are inspired by or shared with Music"

My muse is sometimes musical too though often times the music is as accompaniment to an already formed idea. I decided to make the following bright images to counter balance the moody dark visuals I've been obsessing with of late.

One of my favourite bands of all time is the Sugarcubes whose punky offbeat lyrics never fail to lift my mood. In making these images, I almost certainly began to think about their Music!

The Universe & Me
Universe & Me
"The Universe it is so big I feel
Dizzy when I think about it
My head swims
I get giddy
Still I realise that long ago
It was so small I could have kept it
Underneath my little skirt
Atleast untill that big bang happened...

Sun, planets - the Universe and me.

Sweet dreams are made of these ...
Eat The Menu!
" I'm just a maid, but yes to food is yes to life..."
"I don't want to eat Lobster..."

The Art Fish : Portishead and Octogirl...

Thinkspiration of the day :

Mmm ok so I can't draw for toffee.
Maybe it's all the ammonites I've been making of late; Today I was struck with the idea to create an octo-dress. Oh and right here as an aside -  last night I had some inspired idea to make my own hair brushes by scanning in some wigs and hair pieces I own. I'm quite pleased with the result and have included the file for the hairbrush I made and used in this image for you at the end of this blog.

[ We now return you to your regular programming...]

So yeah... octo-dresses. One day when I grow up, I'll make them in Cinema 4D - meanwhile...

It starts a bit like this...- fast forwarding several steps of removing background and creating octodress...
Several hours later... (Trial and error)

The Art Fish : On clones, mechanoids and the premise of Art.

Embryonic 1
It's funny to myself, how a change in ones own mindset can result in a burst of creativity or inspiration. I suppose it should have been obvious to myself really; given my main occupation is about branding and rebranding for the matter. Anyway I digress...

One of the new things I'd like to blog more about is my own personal explorations in using virtual media to create valid art. Over on my flickr I mentioned a little about how intrigued I am by the idea of identity and the homogenic. This also spills  over to wider ideas that swim around the central theme of intellectual copyright and original thought. (Yes bear with me - my mind makes those sorts of connections!) I'm likely to blab about that now and again too!

So this series echoes a lot of varied ideas.
Creatively - it went something like this :

Embryonic-2
D thinks .o(Hmmm I wonder what embryonic dolls dream of...)
Later that day...
This idea of android dreams are something of a penchant and based in part on my recollections of things I used to dream up in childhood. The mecha-doll fish also has some reference to my fondness for Michael Manning's Hydrophidian
Embryonic-3 : Mecha-Amonite I
Embryonic-2 : Mecha Amonite I
Embryonic-3 : Mecha-Amonite II
Embryonic-3 : Mecha Amonite II
Embryonic-4: Mecha-Kraken
Embryonic-4 : Mecha Kraken
Embryonic-4a: Mecha - Amonites in tank
Embryonic-4a : Mecha-Amonites in Tank

I thought it would be nice to share some personal techniques in the form of a PSD formatted file which you are free to use, remix and redistribute (non commercially). I created the glass marble sphere in Embryonic 2 from a number of hand drawn layers and composites which I am placing here for you to play with. Have fun and don't forget to let me know if you found it useful.

The Fashion Fish : Loves Zibska!

Some truly cutting edge design comes from the imaginings of Zibska's creator so I jumped at the chance to get involved when Zibs Scaggs put a call out for photographers who blog on their Flickr.
I had already been making images with Zibska's designs incorporated and so was eager to try and convince them to "Pick me, pick me, pick me!"

Goodbye Ourfish... Hello Oddfish!

Ourfish (Our"ish) (?)a.
1. Caring supremely or unduly for one's chosen clique/friends/group; regarding its comfort, advantage, etc...
...

Originally, this blog started as a joint project though over the course of its span it has mostly been about my contributions to it. Just on a personal level - it became something of a wall for me to write with that mindset of being part of a non-functioning group of authors.

Life happens too and so a culmination of events has led to this poor cyber journal, languishing in its small corner of cyberspace.
Having found the time to tidy house so to speak; I've decided to reclaim this project as my own and to write in a more personable style instead of in third person reportage. I also wanted to keep aspects of the blog the same; being true to how it started - which was on account of someone inspiring and challenging me to do better.

A new definition :
Dita did a blog-over

Odd fish

noun someone regarded as eccentric or crazy and standing out from a group [syn: kook]

I have always been known as a bit of an odd fish and in fact - a lecturer at my University once described me as a genuine kook.  I thought it appropriate usage of the term for this new phase in the life cycle of a blog and my second life.

I officially blog for World's End Garden and the wonderful creations by Lucia Genesis who has inspired many of my images on Flickr. It is genuinely a great match and I couldn't be happier!
A recent image I created with the use of WEG's Baroque Horns

WEG Stores :

There is no getting  over the fact that whilst I will blog about fashion, art still remains my central passion. Having realised this - I feel that the content of this blog is more likely to lean on the side of being a compliment to my picture making endeavours; far more than it is likely to be about anything else.

I'd certainly like to blog for more creators whom I find inspiring in my picture making process and if my style of blogging fits in line with your aspirations as a designer in second life then I would be quite happy to hear from you.

Thank you very much for continuing to read OPO.
With <3
Dita.

Artfish : On the baroque and tactile

Baroque Zombie

La Cage Aux Folles

The lazy wiki quote :
The Baroque (US /bəˈrk/ or UK /bəˈrɒk/) is a period of artistic style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail to produce drama, tension, exuberance, and grandeur in sculpture, painting, architecture, literature, dance and music. The style began around 1600 in RomeItaly and spread to most of Europe.[1]

These images came about from my desktop recovery -
Warning : Some geekery ahead

The scratch disk space on my HD is appalling and more so since my discovery of higher resolution screen captures that don't glitch on SL. That coupled with my RL hobby photos made my poor Mac groan in protest and I was forced to sort atleast some of my multitude of images from meanderings past.

I came across this :
Wall Texture from Malacca (circa 2012)
One of my old snaps and was inspired to incorporate it in the series exploring texture.
Baroque because the costumes and head-dresses used in these images are of a grandoise nature.

The amazing horns in this picture was an opening gift by Lucia Genesis for Kowloon Sim. The hair is from Zibska and was available to buy at the Hair Fair 2013. The prim lashes were one of those tintable somethings I got free bundled with someotherthing I forgot and I just untinted it for white ;-) . The clothes were LWL's X'mas advent gift (Body Con) for group members. Oh.. and the collar is a TDR grab from Mimikri.
